This acronym will change your life. A 30 second read.


You’ve heard of “SMART” goals, right? You know, the acronym first coined by George T. Doran, a consultant and former Director of Corporate Planning for Washington Water Power Company in Spokane? Well if not, here’s what it stand for:

S – Specific

M – Measurable

A – Attainable or Assignable

R – Realistic

T – Time related.

Its thought that when you focus your attention in these five areas, you dramatically improve your chance of success meeting any goal you set out to achieve. The elements aren’t set in stone – the letters can be used for different words pertaining to a goal such as R – Rewards based.

There’s even been letters added throughout the years – ER specifically (making the acronym SMARTER). The E & the R stand loosely for:

E – Evaluate

R – Review.

Any goal you set out to achieve can be organized with this acronym – for instance weight loss, increased water consumption, career change, life change, renovations, paying off debt, changing habits – honestly anything!

goals1So – whether you knew about SMARTER goal – setting or not, schedule 30 minutes to sit down, write out your main goals (if you have none, start by thinking about things you may want to change in your life – if you have nothing, then pat yourself on the back and keep doing what you’re doing! 🙂
